Tour of NLSB – Friday, April 27, 2012

We will be hosting a final tour of the New Laboratory Science Building (NLSB)  with Whiting-Turner on Friday, April 27 at 2:00PM. Note that participants must be members. If you are interest, please e-mail agc@ecs.umass.edu  and request to be added to the sign-up list.

Participants must wear longs pants closed-toed shoes (steel-toed boots are preferred), and safety glasses (sun glasses are okay too, however, you will be inside the building).  Hard hats and vests will be provided.


Fifth Chapter Meeting – Tuesday, April 10, 2012

The 5th Associated General Constractors (AGC) meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 10th, 2012 at 6:00 PM in Marston 132. Speaker Niels la Cour, Senior Planner on the Campus Planning team, will be joining us to discuss the UMass Campus Master Plan.

Other Events:

  • Officer elections.
  • Sign-ups for the NLSB tour for Friday, April 27th @ 2:00PM.
  • Buy or pick up your $15 t-shirts.
Pizza will be provided thanks to a donation by UMass Campus Planning.

OSHA 10 Training

AGC is hosting their annual OSHA-10 Training soon. When it comes to resumes, this course is great addition to your list of qualifications. In addition, “It’s the law in Massachusetts (and six other states) for all employed on public sector job sites in the Commonwealth, a minimum of 10 hours of OSHA safety training is mandated.” -AGC of MA. Maryanne Steele, the UMass Construction Safety Officer for Environmental Health Services, along with a few guest speakers will be conducting the training.To receive your certification, you must attend all 3 sessions in Draper Hall (room to be announced):Friday, March 30th from 5:45PM – 9PM (pizza provided)
Saturday, March 31st from 1:30PM – 5:30PM (snack provided)
Sunday, April 1st from 1:30PM – 5:30PM (snack provided)
*Make-up sessions may be available if confirmed by the instructor

The certification has no expiration and we offer it at a discounted price from the $325 AGC of MA course or lengthy $90+ online version. The maximum number of students that can be accommodated is 30, so make sure to sign up early! Sign up is based on first-come, first-serve.

 The cost is $15, but you must be a member. Membership is $10. Please pay in full to Jodi Ozdarski in Marston 226 with cash or check made out to “AGC UMass Chapter”. You must attend ALL 3 sessions in order to receive your certificate.

AGC and ASCE T-Shirts and Bar Crawl!

ASCE and AGC will be joining forces this year to sell some awesome t-shirts! We are excited to present this year’s new shirt, designed by Tomer Soran. They are Celtics green with a new design on the back.  The price is $15.

The t-shirts will be distributed and sold at the UPub  from 7:00PM-8:00PM (Saturday, March 31) before the bar crawl. If you are over 21 and joining us for the crawl, make sure to wear your t-shirts during the crawl, as for some bars this is your “access pass” which will enable easier entry into the bars. You may also contact either Zach (zbemis@…),  Michelle (mfiorell@…), or Hannah (hgiovann@…) to submit payments; however, the availability of your shirt size is no longer guaranteed.

Fourth Chapter Meeting – Tuesday, March 6, 2012

The 4th Associated General Constractors (AGC) meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 6th, 2012 at 6:00 PM in TBA. Listen as Jonathan McNulty and Mike Manzolillo, Project Engineers for Dimeo Construction, talk about the campus construction of the Commonwealth Honors College Campus between the Rec Center and Boyden Gym.

Also don’t miss the opportunity to prepay for this year’s t-shirt.

Third Chapter Meeting – Wednesday, December 7, 2011

The 3rd Associated General Contractors (AGC) Chapter Meeting will be held in joint with ASCE on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at 6:30 PM in Marston 132.

Our guest speaker is Scott Michalak, the chief of the Geotechnical/Water Resources Branck for the Army Corps of Engineers. He will be discussing “Levy Safety and Construction of Our National Infrastructure”.

As always, refreshments will be provided.
